Fatigue Symptom Overview
Fatigue is a normal part of every pregnancy. Sometimes, even after having a lot of sleep, exhaustion is common. A percentage of women experience insomnia do to the early changes occurring in the first trimester. The first trimester is notorious for symptoms of fatigue and feeling cranky during the day. Don't be alarmed, this will not last forever and normally subsides by the second trimester when your energy levels increase. As your pregnancy progresses into the third trimester, you may experience times when your energy is high fallowed by bouts of exhaustion. Sleeping may become more difficult as you become larger. Your baby is living on a 24-hour clock and their metabolism is constant and can affect your responses.
How to Alleviate Fatigue During Pregnancy
- Use good sleeping habits by going to bed and getting up at the same time each day.
- Try to go to bed earlier than normal.
- Support yourself with pillows between your knees, behind your back and under your belly.
- Make time for naps if you do not get enough sleep during the night.
- Take warm baths or showers before bed.
- Try reading in bed to help fall asleep.
- Drink fluids earlier in the day so you are less likely to wake for a bathroom run.
