Bloating ─ Symptoms of Pregnancy
Bloating Symptom Overview
Abdominal bloating is usually due to gas and can make your belly feel tight and uncomfortable. This unpleasant feeling is very common throughout pregnancy but tends to get worse in the third trimesters because of pressure your growing baby forces on your stomach and intestines. The origin of bloating is a pregnancy hormone called progesterone which causes the gastrointestinal tract to slow digestion to allow the nutrient from food to enter your blood stream and reach your baby. This slower digestion is the main cause of bloating.
How to Alleviate Bloating During Pregnancy
- Increase the fiber in your diet.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
- Avoid foods such as cabbage, fried foods, soda, broccoli and beans.
- Eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly for easier digestion.
